Choosing the Right Metal Edging for Your Garden

Good metal edging isn’t a one-size-fits-all product. Start with the profile height and material. A 75 mm or 100 mm high edge works for separating lawn from beds. Taller profiles (150 mm+) help contain mulch or gravel.
Material finish matters. Galvanised steel resists rust in coastal or aggressive soils (see Straightcurve’s galvanised range). FormBoss uses weathering steel finishes like REDCOR® for a natural patina and premium appearance. EverEdge offers flexible steel edging ideal for curves, while LinkEdge uses aluminium for rust-free, low-profile installations.
Also consider gauge (thickness) and connectors. Heavier gauge steel (2.0 mm–2.5 mm) holds shape under traffic or mulch. Pre-drilled joiners and anchors simplify installation and maintain clean lines.
