Choosing between blended soils comes down to the site. Sandier mixes drain quickly and suit couch and kikuyu over heavy clay, while loamier soil blends hold moisture through summer. For a new lawn, spread a turf blend soil across the prepared area at 75 to 100mm and level it before the turf arrives. On established lawns, a thinner layer of 10 to 20mm works as a top dress to fill low spots and lift colour. Screened blends spread evenly and settle without leaving hollows, so work out the depth you need before ordering.
