Our Story About Redefined Soils.

At Centenary Landscaping Supplies we really care about soil and have worked hard to ensure our range is one of a kind. Right from the very beginning over 30 years ago, our focus and speciality was soil and specifically the development of a humble little soil known as Special Blend. At the time, Special Blend was so different to anything else available on the market and really became the basis on which all other soils in South East Queensland were modelled. Since then we have worked very hard with topsoil manufacturers, soil scientists and industry professionals to expand our range and set the standard in soil production once again.

Choosing the type of quality soil for your garden is critical as it will provide the foundation of your landscape for many years to come. After spending hundreds of dollars on plants or turf you need to ensure that your investment is protected with the best possible start. At Centenary Landscaping Supplies you can choose from our new UltraGrow Range of premium designed landscaping soils and growing media or our more traditional waste manufactured soil blends. The UltraGrow Range is unique and uncompromised in quality and performance, so you can be confident that the soil you choose will actually work! Our traditional waste manufactured soil blends are more in tune with what you may have used in the past from our store or a competitor that rely exclusively on waste based soils.

The new UltraGrow™ range manufactured by Centenary Landscaping Supplies redefines soils and offers a quality alternative to the traditionally inconsistent recycled waste based soils.

Traditionally Manufactured Soils

Traditionally manufactured soil constitutes the majority of growing media sold throughout South-East Queensland today. These soils use significant levels of composted recycled industrial and green waste materials as an ‘organic’ base.

Landscaping Soils Redefined

We make it ourselves by blending from our secret ingredients so you can be confident you’ll get spectacular growth from your plants and garden.

The soil is the foundation of a healthy and flourishing society. Civilisation depends on plants, animals and agriculture to thrive and support its inhabitants. In our modern built environment, we want a balance between the concrete jungle and a sustainable lifestyle where healthy and thriving plants and trees create breathtaking beauty. To achieve this, plants need to reach their full potential with high-quality nutrient appropriate soils fit for purpose.

I have been working with manufactured soils for over 30 years and my desire was always to produce a superior quality growing media for gardens, potted plants and podiums. I thought I lacked the capacity to do so. But, recently I have become keenly aware that the soil making industry is focused on commercial scale production, cost reduction and green waste recycling. It has neglected to invest time and money into the development of healthy living soils designed around what plants need to thrive. Waste-based soil manufacturing is cost effective and generally meets the Australian Standard definition for landscaping soil. Centenary Landscaping has successfully sold millions of tons of these soils for many years and continue to do so at a price point which many customers demand.

In 2014 my son Conor, who is now CEO, drew my attention to the monoculture of soil choice and the gap between what horticulturist want and what is available. So we sought professional advice based on the science of good soils and plant health.  We engaged with John Daly who was already using our facilities here at Darra to make his own high-end products. In discussions with him, we further discovered he and his peers were also frustrated by what was available on the market. Most of what was being sold as a “premium soil” was the same as our cheap trade and commercial soils with no nutritional value. There was a massive gap between what is available and what we could achieve if we were uncompromising in our soil designs based on the science.

To achieve this we engaged John Daly, a renowned horticulturist,  to work with us to formulate bulk potting and soil blends to create a new market segment with our innovative and highly successful UltraGrow™ Range. This was not an easy task as we had to find clean reliable sources of bulk ingredients that would result in manufactured soils that echoed consistent excellence that far exceeded any current requirement of the Australian Standard AS4419. Our research and development has taken over two years to arrive at the UltraGrow™ range of growing media. It provides our customers with a healthy foundation for spectacular plant growth and beautiful gardens. The UltraGrow™ branded products have achieved an uncompromising standard in soil design. Our research, development and quality control ensures market leading products at the forefront of growing media are available to the home gardener and commercial projects. The community doesn’t know the real potential of our planted environment because they have rarely had the opportunity to see the magnificent results that could be achieved with outstanding soil products like UltraGrow™.

The new UltraGrow™ range manufactured by Centenary Landscaping Supplies redefines soils and offers a quality alternative to the traditionally inconsistent recycled waste based soils. The soil is the absolute foundation of a good garden that you and the community can be proud of. If plants are the crowning glory of a sustainable built environment they simply need good soils or growing media to nurture them to full potential.

So give us a call here at Centenary Landscaping Supplies and speak to our Retail or Trade teams to discuss this whole new approach to soils for your gardens. See our test results at our website. Better still, I suggest you drop into our yard here at 26 Sumners Rd. Darra to see, feel and smell the quality where you can compare UltraGrow™ soils, potting and podium mixes with the traditional waste based soils which we have here for you in huge volumes. You’ll also see our own thriving gardens based on UltraGrow™. Centenary Landscaping Supplies is no ordinary landscape yard and well worth the visit no matter where you live.

LANDSCAPING SOIL RANGE

Traditionally Manufactured Soils

Traditionally manufactured soil constitutes the majority of growing media sold throughout South-East Queensland today. These soils use significant levels of composted recycled industrial and green waste materials as an ‘organic’ base. The composted components are then blended with different mineral elements such as topsoil and sand to manufacture landscape soils designed with the intention of meeting the Australian Standard (AS-4419).

The use of waste material is an environmentally sympathetic means to recycle otherwise unused products. However, often soils are manufactured to suit the waste that is available in abundance rather than what best suits a plants requirements. Centenary Landscaping Supplies acknowledges that green waste blended landscaping soils are a sustainable and effective method for handling and processing this waste.

SUPREME GARDEN SOIL

A mix of strictly fine screened green waste organics composted over 12-14 weeks and blended with quality alluvial topsoil. When using as a planting mix, we recommend the addition of quality fertilisers such as Multi-PRO Extra or Organic Xtra.

TRADE SOIL MIX

A budget mix of green waste organics composted with the aid of liquid waste and blended with top soil suitable for most bulk installation applications. With the higher ratio of top soil, less slumpage can be expected.

ECONO SOIL BLEND

A budget mix of green waste organics composted with the aid of liquid waste and blended with top soil suitable for bulk installation applications. This product is not recommended as a planting mix.

A1 TOP DRESSING SOIL

An excellent light composted organic top dressing option made up of screened organic compost and sand. A1 has a nice balance of nutrients and manure. It helps to increase nutrient retention and improves drainage.

UNDER TURF SOIL

This a new garden and turf underlay based on a natural topsoil with the addition of a small amount of organics and a pH around 7.  It’s also excellent for all garden uses. It is a blackish natural soil with a nice clay content compared to most sandy soils on the market. It has become very popular due to its dark soil look and smell.

VALLEY NATURAL SOIL

This is our first high quality natural soil and is low in phosphorus which makes it suitable for native.  Suitable for garden beds, vegetable garden beds with correct fertiliser, under turf.  It’s free of green waste. It is the perfect base soil for blending your own composts or producing custom soil blends.
